Anna Prokou is an award-winning director, film editor, and producer with over 20 years of experience in documentary filmmaking.  She studied Film Directing with a specialization in Documentary at Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh, graduating with distinction. She also holds qualifications in film editing, sound engineering, and music technology. Her artistic identity is deeply informed by her extensive music studies. These studies enrich her cinematic vision, sense of rhythm, and storytelling, combining sensitivity with a compelling sense of visual and musical narrative.

She has edited more than 100 documentary and short fiction films for independent production companies and international broadcasters, including Al Jazeera Media Network and ERT (Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation). She has also maintained a long-term collaboration as a film editor with acclaimed Greek documentary filmmaker Yorgos Avgeropoulos, contributing to several of his internationally recognized documentaries.

Her work as a director includes Emily, ilaw ng tahanan, a pioneering documentary shot entirely within a custom-built box. This approach marked the first time this experimental format was used to enhance theatricality and the sense of entrapment.The project was developed at the Doha Film Institute, in consultation with Oscar-nominated filmmaker Rithy Panh. The film received international recognition, including the Best Director Award at the European Cinematography Awards 2020 and the Best Medium-Length Documentary Award at DOC LA 2020.

For the past 12 years, she has been working in the Documentary Department of Al Jazeera Media Network. She also collaborates with the Sniper Alley Photo Foundation, where she is co-producer of the documentary mini-series “The Story Behind the Photo”.
